Is Cannabis Legal on Nantucket?
Yes. Cannabis is legal for adults 21 and older on Nantucket under Massachusetts state law. Massachusetts voters legalized adult-use cannabis in 2016, and licensed dispensaries like ACK Natural are authorized by the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission to sell cannabis to any adult with a valid ID — no medical card needed.
ACK Natural at 19 Spearhead Drive is the island’s only licensed cannabis retailer and the only facility with a medical cannabis license on Nantucket.
What the Law Allows
- Adults 21+ may purchase cannabis from a licensed retailer — no medical card required
- You may possess up to 1 ounce (28 grams) of cannabis in public
- You may keep up to 10 ounces at home
- Adults may grow up to 6 plants for personal use (up to 12 per household) at their primary residence
- Legal products include flower, edibles, vapes, tinctures, concentrates, and topicals
- Cannabis delivery is now legal statewide — Governor Healey signed H.5350 authorizing licensed retail delivery across Massachusetts
What Is Not Allowed
- Consuming cannabis in public spaces, parks, or on the beach
- Smoking or vaping cannabis anywhere tobacco smoking is prohibited
- Driving under the influence of cannabis
- Purchasing or possessing cannabis if you are under 21
- Taking cannabis off the island on a ferry or aircraft — cannabis cannot cross state lines under federal law
Bringing Cannabis to Nantucket
Transporting cannabis across state lines is illegal under federal law, regardless of whether both states allow it. If you’re traveling to Nantucket from another state, don’t bring cannabis with you. Purchase from ACK Natural after you arrive.
The Steamship Authority and other carriers prohibit cannabis on board. Any cannabis purchased legally on Nantucket should stay on Nantucket.
Nantucket-Specific Context
Massachusetts towns can set their own local rules around cannabis businesses, and Nantucket has done so. ACK Natural operates under both state licensing from the Cannabis Control Commission and local Nantucket approval. There are no special restrictions on purchasing cannabis at our shop.
