Want to enjoy Live Music with less Crowds?

The Muse That's the live music on Nantucket this week that's worth planning around — two national touring acts bookending a free night in between. Wed 9/9 — Young the Giant, doors 7:30 PM, show 9:00 PM. The alt-rock band behind "Cough Syrup" and "My Type" headlines. Thu 9/10 — The Rollin' Bones, doors 7:00 PM, show 9:00 PM, no cover — a free night worth building the evening around. Fri 9/11 — Grace Potter, doors 7:00 PM, show 9:00 PM. Rock, soul, and Americana from one of the road's best live performers. Ticket prices weren't posted at time of writing for either headliner — check musenantucket.com before you plan the night around one. Cisco Brewers The outdoor stage doesn't take a night off this week, rain or shine, with no cover and food trucks on site. Mon 9/7 — Ankle Slappers, 4–7 PM. Tue 9/8 — Ankle Slappers, 4–7 PM, second night of a two-day run before they head to the Surf Bar for a late set. Wed 9/9 — Buckle & Shake, 4–7 PM. Thu 9/10 — B3 Kings, 4–7 PM. Fri 9/11 — Reverend Lee, 4–7 PM. Sat 9/12 — Doug & Co., 12–3 PM, then Reverend Lee, 4–7 PM. Sun 9/13 — The Slips, 12–3 PM, then Coyote Island, 3–6 PM. The Chicken Box No shows on the calendar Sept 7–13 — the Box is dark this week. Next up: Maxxtone, Oct 9–10, so pencil that in if you're sticking around into fall. In the meantime, The Muse and Cisco Brewers more than cover the late-night and early-evening slots the Box usually fills. Follow @thechickenbox for the fastest word on anything added last minute. Brotherhood of Thieves Two nights worth circling in the Surf Bar this week, both free and an easy walk from downtown. Tue 9/8 — Ankle Slappers, 8:00 PM. Fri 9/11 through Sat 9/12 — Reverend Lee, a two-night run that overlaps with the same act's early-evening set at Cisco Brewers both nights. The Dreamland No concerts on the Harborview calendar Sept 7–13 — it's back to films for now. Check the Dreamland's own calendar if you're looking for a rainy-day matinee instead of a night out — the theater still runs first-run films and classics daily even between concert bookings. Before you head out Crowds are thinner now that school's back in session off-island, so it's an easier week than most to grab a spot at the bar or a seat on the boat. Nantucket by Water's Tuesday sunset shanty cruise also wraps its season this week, with this Tuesday, Sept 8, as the final sailing until next summer. No weather or ferry disruptions on the radar as of this writing, but shoulder-season schedules shift fast — double-check each venue's own site before you head out the door. September on Nantucket tends to reward the patient: smaller crowds, the same great acts, and a lot less waiting in line. Stocking up first?
